Follows a winding path
To find that heroes always
A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man. - Joseph Campbell... yet these days we know that heroes can collude.
Is an artificial man still not a man, despite its programmed tendencies? What are we if not machines coded with a tendency towards survival & procreation?
The fact that we have goals and motivations beyond the simple recombination of genetic code means that human beings are uniquely special, at least on this planet. Surely this must mean that there is something fundamentally wrong with the affairs of statecraft, as we can see throughout history.
Truth is, that recorded history shows mankind never really stands alone. We had pets which allowed us to take our minds off the now. Dogs to guard our thoughts, and beasts of burden to plow plenty. Even the heroes of legend never truly stood alone. Those Kings had lieutenants, and loyal followers to support them in the time of weakness. They followed because the boons that a hero offers its fellow men were worth the support.
Where are our heroes now? Truth is that since I began playing on the Intern*net, I see them everywhere...
